What Is Beauty?

Beauty is often defined as a subjective feature of certain objects, which makes these objects enjoyable to see. These objects could be nature, art, humans or works of architecture. In addition, beauty is an attribute of an individual’s personality, for example a beautiful smile, intelligent gaze or a singing voice. Beauty, with taste and art, is probably the most significant area of aesthetics, among the major branches of science. However, it is a relatively complex area, in the sense that it can be used to explain a whole range of phenomena. For instance, an appreciation of beauty could be explained not only by personal aesthetic tastes but also by cultural, neurological, physiological and other environmental factors.

Explaining beauty standards around the world can be seen as an attempt to describe the vast array of differences in beauty standards. The explanations for different standards of beauty vary widely between cultures. European beauty standards, for example, are widely considered to be more unattainable than beauty standards found among Asian cultures. The belief that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder pervades many cultures, despite the fact that most people do not view physical appearance as the basis for evaluating beauty. This perspective could be why beauty standards often differ between societies, allowing some cultures to define beauty at much more rigid means than others.

In the West, beauty has been defined as the beauty of a person, while in East Asia beauty standards often differ with gender, age or societal status. Most East Asian societies consider a beautiful woman to be voluptuous, with straight, arched and symmetrical shoulders, arms and legs. A beautiful woman is generally considered beautiful because she is dressed with suitable clothing and jewelry, has long and straight hair, has high skin elasticity, and is balanced on her shoulders, hips and knees. These cultural definitions of beauty help women find meaning and value in their lives that they would otherwise not have, thus making them beautiful.

In the Christian Middle Ages, beauty became closely tied to the concept of chastity, as the perceived forms of beauty were always those that did not involve sexuality or were seen as representative of virtue. For this reason, women were often barred from participating in public gatherings or wearing clothes that might show their “naughty” parts. For example, modest women were not allowed to wear long dresses in public or to makeup their faces. Beauty became synonymous with purity, a view which carried over into Europe when theurgical practices of the Middle Ages began to decline. While it was still important to be beautiful in the eyes of the gods, for Christians it was important to be beautiful in order to participate in the earthly rewards of salvation. Thus, while it was important to strive to be physically as beautiful as possible, it was also important to look as beautiful as possible within the Christian religious society.

While in modern times physical beauty is usually associated with beauty in the material world, it is important to note that beauty can exist in the spiritual world as well, just as much as it can in the material world. It is important to remember, however, that while you may wish to be beautiful, you should not focus so much on your physical beauty that you lose sight of who you really are. Instead, allow beauty to become a part of your inner beauty, focusing outward instead of inward. As you do so, you will find that not only will you become more comfortable with yourself and your world, but you will also begin to feel beautiful in ways that you never before thought were possible.

Today, we live in a culture that has a great interest in physical beauty. This has led to an interest in beauty in all forms, which includes beauty that occurs within the four areas of the physical body: face, body, hair, and nails. While it may be difficult for some people to accept certain societal beauty standards, it is important to remember that beauty is something that is inherent in all of us. While you may wish to focus on certain aspects of your physical beauty in order to make yourself feel more comfortable or beautiful, you should remember that beauty is something that is found in all things, including those things that are not seen or felt by the naked eye. If you want to define and enhance your own sense of personal beauty, remember that beauty can exist in the spiritual world just as much as it does in the physical world.
